Akinjide Osuntokun, a professor of History and International Relations, has stated that former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele was earning a very large salary while in office under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
In a video shared by Channels Television, Osuntokun said it was recently revealed that Emefiele officially earned about 35 million naira every month as CBN governor. He said the figure was surprising when compared to the president of Nigeria, who earned around 1 million naira monthly.
Osuntokun said that despite earning such a huge salary, Emefiele was still not content, and he even attempted to become president of Nigeria
In Osuntokun’s words: “It wasn’t until recently when newspapers carried the news that Emefiele the governor of Central Bank was earning 35 million naira a month officially, that was his salary. So the person was arguing, how can the president of Nigeria be earning about 1 million naira when the governor of Central Bank earns this amount.
