According to a report by Daily Independent, on Tuesday February 17, 2026, the founder of Christ Apostolic Church Adamimogo Grace of Mercy Prayer Mountain Worldwide, Prophet Samuel Olu Alo, has spoken against what he described as growing controversy over the timing of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Lagos, the cleric said Nigerians should avoid turning the proposed election date into a religious issue and noted that in the past, general elections had been conducted during periods when Christians were fasting, and there were no major complaints from the public.
According to him, it is surprising that concerns are now being raised because the next election may fall within a Muslim fasting period, he said the country should apply the same standard to all religions and avoid actions that could create division among citizens.
Prophet Alo explained that fasting is a period when people are more spiritually conscious and mindful of their actions, he said holding elections during such a time could even encourage voters and political actors to behave responsibly.
In his view, when people are focused on prayer and self-discipline, they are less likely to engage in wrongdoing and stressed that Nigerians should see the timing as an opportunity rather than a problem.
He added that conducting elections during a fasting season could promote sincerity, transparency, and accountability in the electoral process and warned against using the situation to promote religious discrimination or tension.
”Elections have been fixed during the fasting of Christians in this country, and no one raised an alarm on that. Why should we now make so much noise when it falls on Muslim fasting period. I believe having the pols during fasting will even give us the opportunity to do things with the fear of God and not manipulate the elections.
