Djalili: “European Parliament Voting IRGC As Terrorist List Will Make Iran Officially A Pariah State

British-Iranian comedian and actor Omid Djalili has welcomed the European Parliament’s push to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, stating that such a move “will make Iran a pariah state, will make it officially a terrorist state” and severely complicate any business dealings with the regime. In his interview with The Independent, Djalili described this development as a crucial step toward isolating the Iranian government amid its brutal crackdown on nationwide protests.

Djalili, who has closely followed the unrest as both an Iranian by heritage and a dedicated human rights advocate, emphasized that the IRGC’s proscription would mark a turning point in international pressure. He highlighted how the regime has long relied on the IRGC to enforce repression, including during the current wave of demonstrations that began over economic collapse but swiftly turned into calls for regime change across 186 cities. He noted the regime’s tactic of imposing internet blackouts to conceal atrocities, yet partial connectivity has allowed evidence of massacres—including foreign militias from Iraq involved in killings—to leak out via Telegram and other channels.

Expressing frustration with delayed Western media coverage, Djalili pointed to earlier instances where outlets prioritized regime viewpoints, such as opinion pieces from former foreign ministers, over reports of mass murder and cruelty. He argued that labeling the IRGC a terrorist entity would not only hinder economic ties but also signal global solidarity with Iranians risking their lives.

This comes as he has repeatedly called for “no more negotiation” with a regime he sees as imploding, one that funds global terrorism with oil revenues while massacring its own people. Djalili framed the European move as part of a broader imperative for the world to stand up, amplifying genuine voices silenced by blackouts and pushing for accountability that could hasten the regime’s isolation as a pariah.
