Dangote: When BUA Was Trying To Bring Price Of Cement Down, There Was Scuffle Between Them -Mohammed

Engr. Kailani Mohammed, a retired official in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, has alleged that excessive political influence helped shield major corporate interests from proper scrutiny during investigations involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).

Speaking on Trust TV, Mohammed criticized the National Assembly’s handling of a probe linked to allegations made by billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote. According to him, the investigation focused narrowly on NNPC while failing to thoroughly examine claims that foreign actors were involved, a lapse he says weakened accountability and allowed the matter to quietly fade away.

Mohammed further accused Dangote of dominating multiple key sectors of the Nigerian economy, arguing that such market concentration stifles competition and keeps prices high. He cited industries like cement, sugar, flour, and packaged water as examples, warning that unchecked monopoly power can undermine fair market practices and harm consumers.

In his statement, he said, “Dangote has too many friends in the National Assembly. I won’t mention names. They set up a joint committee to investigate the issue we are talking about. At the end of the day, they faulted the NNPC. We didn’t see a general investigation calling Nigerians to come forward or summoning the foreigners whom Dangote alleged were conniving. Nobody did that. When you investigate an issue in Nigeria and then just allow it to go, it will simply fizzle out.

I said Dangote is a monopolizer. Look at the issue of flour, the issue of sugar, the issue of cement, the issue of pure water, he has monopolized them. Even when BUA, his own brother, was trying to bring the price of cement down, there was a scuffle between them.”
