A mild drama played out in the Nigerian Senate as the former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and the Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, engaged in a heated exchange of words during a recent plenary session.
The confrontation reportedly started when Senator Ndume interrupted Oshiomhole, insisting that the former governor was violating the Senate’s standing rules by speaking on a motion that had not been properly seconded. Ndume, known for his strict adherence to legislative procedures, raised his voice to call Oshiomhole to order.
”This is the Senate, it is not a joke. You cannot just speak when the motion is dead,” Ndume reportedly shouted.
Visibly angered by the interruption, Oshiomhole fired back, accusing Ndume of being a “hypocrite” who acts like a holy saint but has his own flaws. The exchange quickly degenerated into a shouting match, with Oshiomhole telling Ndume to “go and sit down” while other lawmakers struggled to restore calm.
The Chairman of the Committee had to intervene multiple times to prevent the situation from escalating further. The clash has since sparked reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating whether the Senate is focusing on the people’s hardship or personal egos.
This is not the first time the two ranking senators have disagreed openly, signaling a deepening rift within the ruling party’s caucus in the Red Chamber.
