Christian Mass Killing: US Sends Troops To Nigerian Soil To Combat with Terrorists

According to Vanguard News, the United States has acknowledged that a small contingent of its military personnel has been deployed to Nigeria, marking the first official confirmation of American troops operating on Nigerian soil since U.S. airstrikes were carried out late last year.

The disclosure was made by General Dagvin R. M. Anderson, the commander of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), who said the deployment followed discussions between Washington and Abuja on the growing security threats posed by extremist groups in West Africa.

According to him, both countries agreed that additional cooperation was necessary to address the situation.

General Anderson explained that the U.S. team brings specialized capabilities intended to strengthen joint efforts, but he declined to reveal details about the unit’s size or the precise nature of its mission. Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Christopher Musa, also confirmed the presence of the team, though he likewise refrained from offering further specifics.

The development comes weeks after President Donald Trump ordered airstrikes on what he described as Islamic State-linked targets in Nigeria on Christmas Day, warning at the time that further military action remained an option. Prior to those strikes, U.S. surveillance flights had reportedly been conducted over Nigeria from a base in Ghana.

A former U.S. official familiar with the matter said the deployed personnel are believed to be focused largely on intelligence collection and supporting Nigerian forces in operations against militant groups.

Nigeria has faced mounting pressure from Washington, particularly after President Trump accused the country of failing to protect Christian communities from Islamist violence in the northwest.

AFRICOM said recent U.S. strikes, carried out in coordination with Nigerian forces, killed several Islamic State fighters in Sokoto State…..View_More
