Buhari: There Were Attempts Against His Life, Harm Was Done, But His Time Was Not Yet- Fatima Buhari

According to Leadership News, Fatima Buhari, a daughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has recounted a remarkable personal experience from her father’s years in office, disclosing that he at one point believed his office at the Presidential Villa was being secretly monitored.

She explained that the suspicion grew so strong at times that speaking openly felt risky, leading them to abandon verbal communication and instead pass messages to each other through handwritten notes.

The account is contained in a newly published biography, From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, written by Dr Charles Omole, the Director General of the Institute for Police and Security Policy Research (IPSPR).

The book, which was recently presented in Abuja, provides rare and intimate perspectives on Buhari’s private life as well as his experiences while serving as president.

Fatima further recalled that there were moments when her father was visibly anxious about the safety of his environment, especially within the confines of his own office, where he feared conversations might not be secure.

She said Buhari at times suspected that discussions in the office were being secretly listened to, a belief that made him act with extreme caution whenever they were together.

Fatima recalled a particular moment when her father chose not to speak at all, opting instead to communicate through quiet signals.

Rather than using words, she explained, Buhari used small gestures to express his unease and to show that silence was necessary.

“He touched his cheek, like he had a toothache, and signalled that we shouldn’t talk,” she said.

As a result, they exchanged their thoughts by writing on pieces of paper, an experience she compared to scenes from a spy movie.

“We wrote notes to each other, like spies in a film.”

Fatima added that the concern over surveillance was only part of a much larger sense of unease surrounding the Villa.

She described the overall atmosphere as tense and troubling, suggesting it went far beyond normal political stress.

According to her, there were times when the environment felt particularly ominous, so much so that she said it occasionally bordered on what she described as “diabolical.”

“We’re Africans. We know supernatural powers,” she said, deliberately steering clear of giving details about some incidents.

She explained that certain experiences were either too delicate or beyond clear explanation to be discussed publicly, noting that some issues, in her view, were best entrusted to divine judgment.

Fatima also spoke openly about the постоян fear she lived with concerning her father’s safety during his time in office.

She revealed that there were occasions when she truly believed attempts were being made on his life.

While she declined to go into specifics about those situations, she insisted that the threat was genuine and ongoing.

“There were attempts. Harm was done, but his time was not yet,” she said.
