Boko Haram fighters and members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched coordinated attacks on several communities and military formations in Borno and Yobe states.

According to reports, the attacks occurred simultaneously between midnight and the early hours of Thursday, targeting Mafa, Dikwa, Marte, and Ajiri in Borno State, as well as Katarko town in Yobe State.

Last Friday, the insurgents ambushed Nigerian troops during a clearance operation, killing seven soldiers, including the commanding officer of the 202 Tank Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel A.S. Paiko.

In a report by DAILY TRUST on Friday October 24 2025, a local security source said the insurgents attacked a military checkpoint in Mafa, a location where travelers often wait for clearance to continue their journey. He said the attackers looted weapons, ammunition, and newly acquired operational motorcycles used for bush patrols.

His words, “They looted arms and ammunition and the newly procured operation motorcycles that we use in bushes. The attackers were many. They came in large numbers and engaged our men intensely but many of them were neutralised.”
