At The End Of The Day,We May’ve A President Who’ll Run Away Because We Are Not Backing Down–Melaye

According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, June 20, 2026, former federal lawmaker Dino Melaye has raised concerns over the potential political direction of Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that there could be serious national consequences if the election is allegedly manipulated in favour of President Bola Tinubu.

Melaye suggested that such an outcome could push the country into a period of heightened political tension and possible instability, describing a scenario he believes may escalate into what he referred to as a “war path” if electoral processes are not conducted transparently.

In a video message shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, Melaye addressed his supporters and the general public, expressing strong opposition to any attempt to influence or alter the outcome of future elections.

He stated that he and others who share his political stance would not accept any form of electoral manipulation.

According to him, there would be firm resistance against any perceived attempt to compromise the credibility of the electoral process, emphasizing that the integrity of the ballot must be protected at all times.

Melaye further stated that the opposition is prepared to challenge any situation that undermines the democratic process, insisting that such actions would not go unchallenged.

He referenced international examples while speaking about electoral accountability, saying that lessons from other countries demonstrate that citizens can resist perceived injustice in governance and elections.

In his remarks, he suggested that Nigeria could witness similar resistance patterns if electoral integrity is not upheld, drawing attention to what he described as global precedents of civic pushback.

The former senator also made remarks suggesting that Nigeria could end up with a president who might not remain in office under intense political pressure, should electoral disputes arise.

He argued that the political climate could become highly charged if allegations of rigging surface, adding that opposition groups would be prepared to ensure that such situations are confronted.

His comments reflected concerns about post-election stability and the potential for disputes to escalate if electoral outcomes are widely contested.

Melaye also commented on the balance of political power in the country, stating that those in authority represent only a small fraction of the population compared to the broader Nigerian public.

He emphasized that the majority of citizens hold the true influence in shaping the country’s democratic direction.

According to him, political authority should reflect the will of the people, and any disconnect between leadership and the electorate could lead to heightened tensions and resistance from opposition forces.

He said, “At the end of the day, we may have a president who will run away because we are not backing down. We are with the people and we will speak as a people. Those in power in this country, are less than one percent of the population.
