In an interview with The Legacy Series, Chief Olabode George, a retired Commodore in the Nigerian Navy and former Military Governor of Ondo State, stated that his pension as a retired senior military officer is only 225,000 naira

Chief George said the amount is so small that if he travels to Abuja once, he would not be able to afford the cost of returning to Lagos.

George stated that his pension would have been around one hundred thousand naira if not for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who increased it to 225 thousand naira during his time as president
