As Long As One Drop Of Igbo Blood Flows In My Veins, I’m Igbo -Asari Dokubo

In a recent video shared on Facebook on Sunday, January 11, 2026, Niger Delta activist and Kalabari chieftain, Asari Dokubo, spoke emotionally about identity, ethnicity, and solidarity among Nigeria’s diverse peoples. Dokubo addressed debates surrounding his ethnic background, insisting that heritage and personal conviction define identity more than geography or political labeling.

According to Dokubo, “As long as one drop of Igbo blood flows in my veins, I’m Igbo.” He stated that ancestry, history, and shared struggle bind people together, and no individual or group has the authority to deny another person’s identity. Dokubo emphasized that Nigeria’s ethnic divisions have often been manipulated for political gain, weakening unity and mutual respect.

He explained that his statement was not meant to diminish his Kalabari roots but to affirm solidarity with the Igbo people, whom he described as resilient, courageous, and central to Nigeria’s socio-economic development. Dokubo noted that bloodlines and shared experiences transcend artificial boundaries created by politics and colonial history.

The outspoken activist criticized those who question his ethnic claims, accusing them of promoting exclusion and intolerance. He argued that such attitudes fuel unnecessary hostility and distract Nigerians from more pressing issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, and governance. According to him, identity should unite rather than divide.

Dokubo also urged Nigerians to reject ethnic hatred and embrace mutual respect, stressing that no group can thrive in isolation. He said Nigeria’s strength lies in recognizing the interconnectedness of its peoples and acknowledging shared histories and contributions.

Dokubo further stated that embracing one’s roots should never be a source of shame or conflict, adding that national peace can only be achieved when Nigerians respect one another’s identities and refuse to allow ethnicity to be weaponized for division.
