According to a report by Punch New, Residents and traders in Anambra State have reacted strongly to alleged threats against their livelihoods, declaring that “Anambra people have spoken, we commend your courage—Governor Soludo must stop threatening our market.” The statement, which has circulated widely among market unions and civil groups, reflects growing dissatisfaction over policies and actions perceived as hostile to traders across the state.
Speaking through a joint message, market leaders said, Our markets are the backbone of Anambra’s economy. Any attempt to intimidate traders or disrupt our businesses is unacceptable and will only deepen hardship for ordinary people. They emphasized that thousands of families depend on daily market activities for survival and warned that continued pressure could strain relations between the government and citizens.
The traders and community groups urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to adopt dialogue rather than coercion, stressing that “development cannot be built on fear, threats, or intimidation.” They called for mutual respect and inclusive engagement, adding that the people’s resilience shows they are ready to defend their economic rights while still supporting genuine development initiatives.
