According to an Iran International English report of Sunday 1 of February 2026, Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, haz warned that any military action initiated by the United States (US) against the Islamic Republic would not remain confined, but instead escalate into a broader regional conflict.
Speaking amid renewed tensions between Tehran and Washington, Khamenei said that the US should not underestimate the consequences of its actions in the Middle East. “America should know that if it starts a war this time, it will be a regional war,” he said, adding that recent statements from US officials did not represent a new development.
Khamenei dismissed Washington’s rhetoric as repetitive, arguing that threats of military force have been made many times before without materializing. He noted that US officials have frequently spoken of the possibility of war while showcasing military assets in the region. These declarations, he said, are often accompanied by familiar language suggesting that escalation remains an option, including claims that “all options are on the table.”
The Supreme Leader said that such statements are intended to intimidate Iran and shape public perception, but insisted they have failed to influence the country’s leadership or population. He maintained that past displays of US military power, including the deployment of aircraft carriers and warplanes, have not altered Iran’s position or resolve.
Khamenei also criticized US President, Donald Trump, by directly referring to his repeated remarks about the movement of American naval forces. He said that Trump frequently boasts that the US has deployed ships to the region, but stressed that these actions should not be interpreted as a sign of strength capable of pressuring Iran.
According to Khamenei, Iranians are accustomed to such threats, and do not view them as a reason for fear. He said that the Iranian people are not swayed by displays of military hardware or aggressive language, and will not be intimidated by US posturing.
The remarks come at a time of heightened strain between the two countries marked by sharp exchanges and increased military activity in the region. Iran has consistently stated that it does not seek war but will respond decisively if attacked.
Khamenei reiterated that Iran’s stance remains firm, warning that any conflict initiated by Washington would draw in other regional actors and destabilize a wider area beyond Iran’s borders as well. He emphasized that responsibility for such an outcome would rest squarely with the US.
