Babangida Ruma, a Nigerian youth leader and social development advocate, has weighed in on the implications of the reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warning that his death could significantly shift Iran’s nuclear and military trajectory.

Ruma, who is known in Nigeria as a youth advocate, community organizer and co-founder of the Arewa Youth Awareness Initiative Forum (AYAIF), shared his views on his verified Facebook account. He argued that Khamenei may have been a restraining force within Iran’s leadership structure, particularly regarding nuclear weapons development.

According to Ruma, Khamenei’s religious decree — a fatwa prohibiting the pursuit of nuclear arms — played a central role in preventing Iran from fully committing to nuclear weaponization.

With the supreme leader gone, he suggested that this theological and political restraint could disappear, potentially empowering more hardline factions within the system.

Ruma specifically pointed to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), describing it as a powerful and ideologically driven institution that, in his view, had been held in check by Khamenei’s authority. He implied that the balance of influence within Iran’s power structure could now tilt further toward more militant elements.
