ADC Wanted To Give Him Everything To Avoid Him Making Any Excuse Before The Primary Election—Okonkwo

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that the party made major concessions to retain former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an interview on Niger Unfiltered on SYMFONI TV, Okonkwo claimed that the ADC leadership was prepared to hand Obi significant control within the party in order to prevent him from abandoning the coalition before the presidential primary.

According to him, “ADC wanted to give him everything to avoid him making any excuse before the primary election.”

Okonkwo stated that Obi had earlier expressed concerns about monetisation and dollarisation of party primaries, similar to claims he allegedly made before leaving the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2023 elections. He argued, however, that the ADC leadership attempted to eliminate such complaints by granting Obi key concessions within the party structure.

The former Obi ally alleged that the ex-Anambra governor was allowed to nominate the party’s National Organising Secretary, a position responsible for supervising congresses and primary elections. He further claimed that individuals loyal to Obi were placed in charge of the party’s online registration process to ensure transparency and fairness.

Okonkwo maintained that despite these arrangements, he had warned ADC leaders from the beginning that Obi would eventually leave the party. He said he made this prediction during the coalition’s early strategic meetings, insisting that Obi was uncomfortable with competitive internal democracy.

The actor-turned-politician also dismissed Obi’s public explanation that he exited the ADC because of internal crises and factional disputes, arguing that the issues cited already existed before Obi joined the party in December 2025…See More
