ADC: Obi Exit Left S’east Confused So Position That Would’ve Gone To Southeast Became Vacant—Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the ADC, alleged that Peter Obi’s exit from the party’s presidential process left the Southeast politically disadvantaged, arguing that his departure created uncertainty over a position many expected would remain available to the region.

According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Channels Television on Thursday, July 16, 2026, while speaking during an interview, Okonkwo shared his account of events surrounding Obi’s departure from the ADC’s presidential selection process.

Okonkwo maintained that the Southeast lost an important opportunity after the process changed unexpectedly, claiming the region was left uncertain about its prospects and that the circumstances surrounding the development affected political expectations within the opposition coalition considerably.

During the interview, he stated, “the person who represented the Southeast in that calculation left unceremoniously before the conclusion of the process. That left the Southeast disadvantaged and confused, and immediately after Peter Obi exited, it was as if the position that would have been given to the Southeast had become vacant.”

He argued that the situation created a gap within the party’s calculations, adding that several respected names were discussed afterward, although circumstances surrounding party membership and electoral rules affected the options available at that particular stage of the process.

Okonkwo further maintained that his remarks were intended to explain the sequence of political events from his perspective, presenting them as his assessment of the developments rather than an established account accepted by all parties involved.

In his concluding remarks, Okonkwo said the party eventually addressed its internal concerns through consultations, expressing confidence that members had united behind the adopted ticket as preparations continued for the 2027 general elections across the country…See_More
