ADC 2027: If You Choose Someone From North, I’m Not Saying We Won’t Try To Campaign-Rotimi Amaec

According to a report by Daily Post News, on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, has warned that it may be difficult for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to persuade voters in southern Nigeria to support a presidential candidate from the North.

He gave the warning while speaking in Kano, where he addressed questions about the party’s strategy ahead of the next general election.

Amaechi said regional considerations would play a significant role in determining electoral outcomes.

Amaechi advised the ADC to carefully assess the political landscape across different regions before deciding on its presidential ticket.

He noted that voter sentiment in the South could influence the party’s performance if it fails to balance regional expectations.

According to him, strategic planning and internal consensus are necessary to strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.

Responding to a question on whether he would support any candidate produced by the ADC in 2025, the former Rivers State governor said he was ready to back whoever emerges through the party’s process.

He stressed that the party must make informed decisions that would improve its public perception and attract broader national support.

Amaechi explained that leadership choices should reflect fairness and political realities across the country.

He said that political actors must consider how power rotation and regional representation affect voter confidence.

He added that decisions taken without proper consultation could create challenges during campaigns.

He stated, “If you choose someone from the North, I’m not saying we won’t try to campaign, but it will be hard to get the South to give up power because they will ask the North, ‘Why is it that only when power comes to the South does there become a problem?’”

He made the remark while emphasizing the importance of understanding regional concerns before finalizing the party’s presidential candidate.

Amaechi further advised the ADC to review its internal processes and identify a candidate capable of presenting a clear direction for the country.

He said the party must demonstrate readiness to address national issues and convince Nigerians that it offers a credible alternative. He maintained that unity within the party would be essential in building public trust.

He also suggested that the party should complete its internal consultations and leadership arrangements before moving forward with its campaign structure.

According to him, a well-coordinated approach would strengthen the ADC’s position and help it navigate the complexities of Nigeria’s political environment ahead of the election.
