About 1M Youths Changed Govt In Nepal While 20,000 Nigerians Were Queuing Up For Jollof Rice -Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and former presidential candidate, has raised concern about the attitude of Nigerian youths toward politics, criticizing them for giving more attention to trivial matters than to meaningful political participation.

In an interview with Symfoni, he highlighted the recent case of Nepal, where youths mobilized in large numbers to bring about a change in government. He contrasted this with Nigeria, where many young people often gather in their thousands for free food or entertainment rather than channeling such energy into political action.

Sowore described this trend as a clear sign of misplaced priorities. He explained that while youths in Nepal demonstrated their seriousness by demanding accountability and reform, their Nigerian counterparts continue to allow distractions such as food handouts to overshadow their role in shaping governance.

He stressed that the pursuit of rice or other giveaways should not replace the demand for good leadership. For him, this attitude shows that many young Nigerians are yet to realize the power they hold in numbers. Sowore urged them to take lessons from the determination of youths in other countries and to focus on organizing, mobilizing, and demanding change that can secure a better future.
