‘Abiola And Obasanjo Were Townsmen From Abeokuta But Abiola Wanted Sharia In Western States’ – Ukeje

Dr. Stan Ukeje, a respected political commentator and elder statesman from Igboland, has criticized the late Chief MKO Abiola over past actions which he described as unheroic.

Speaking in a discussion, Ukeje recalled that during the 1970s, when the Constituent Assembly was sitting, Abiola pushed for the introduction of Sharia in the western states.

He also noted that although Abiola came from the same town as Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Obasanjo, and Ernest Shonekan — Abeokuta — his actions in business were questionable.

According to Ukeje, Abiola, who was an employee of ITT, used his Nigerian background to help the company secure government contracts. He went further to impose himself on the company and eventually became a majority shareholder. Ukeje stressed that such conduct was far from saintly.

In Dr. Stan Ukeje’s words: “When the Constituent Assembly was sitting in the 1970s, he (Abiola) wanted Sharia in the western states. Abiola and Fela Anikulapo Kuti, they are townsmen. Abiola, Obasanjo, Fela, Shonekan, a lot of big people came from Abeokuta. But it was known that Abiola was an employee of ITT, but because he was a Nigerian, he was helping the company to get jobs from government, and he imposed himself on the company and became a majority shareholder. Those are not saintly behaviors.” See, More, Here>>>>
