According to Iran International English, a senior Iranian official and influential ideologue, Hassan Rahimpour Azghadi, has called for the capture of United States President Donald Trump, invoking a comparison with Washington’s recent actions against Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, as tensions escalate over Iran’s ongoing protests and U.S. support for demonstrators.
Speaking on Iranian state-linked media, Azghadi argued that Iran should respond forcefully to what he described as Washington’s hostile stance toward the Islamic Republic and its handling of nationwide unrest.
He suggested that Tehran should “do to Trump what they did to Maduro,” asserting that the U.S. president must “pay the price” for American policies toward Iran.
Azghadi, a member of Iran’s Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution and a prominent hardline voice, further claimed that a broad range of actions against U.S. interests could be justified. He framed such rhetoric as permissible retaliation in response to U.S. pressure and support for Iranian protesters.
His comments come amid the most severe wave of unrest in Iran in years, driven by economic hardship, political repression, and growing public anger at the clerical establishment.
Iranian authorities have responded with sweeping security measures, including internet restrictions and mass arrests, while accusing foreign powers—particularly the United States—of fueling the protests.
Washington, under President Trump, has taken an increasingly confrontational tone, warning Tehran over its crackdown on demonstrators and signaling potential consequences if violence against civilians continues.
This has further inflamed rhetoric from hardline factions within Iran, who portray the unrest as part of a foreign-backed destabilization campaign.
Although Azghadi’s remarks do not represent official Iranian government policy, they underscore the intensity of anti-U.S. sentiment among powerful ideological circles in Tehran and highlight the risk of further escalation in an already volatile relationship.
