Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has publicly reacted to recent political defections in Nigeria, offering a critical perspective on the motivations behind such moves.
Dalung focused on Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who recently left his political party to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a decision that has drawn widespread attention and discussion.
In a video, Dalung mocked Mutfwang for his actions, pointing out the contradiction between claiming God’s guidance during his successful gubernatorial campaign and abandoning the party through which he claimed to have received divine support. Dalung stressed that true faith should align with integrity, questioning the credibility of leaders who invoke God’s help yet make self-serving political shifts.
He said in the video, “Mutfwang campaigned and told the people of Plateau that God gave him the power to win; indeed, He did. But now, this same God who granted him victory is being ignored.”
Dalung’s remarks underline the tension between political ambition and moral responsibility, prompting discussions about the role of faith in Nigerian politics and the ethical implications of defections motivated by personal gain rather than public service.
