Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has described the ongoing impeachment move against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as a fatal political miscalculation that could permanently end the influence of former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI Television on Sunday, January 25, 2026, Dalung said the impeachment effort—widely believed to have been orchestrated by Wike—amounts to the final blow against the former governor’s political standing.
According to Dalung, the move reflects a deepening crisis within Wike’s political camp and signals a loss of strategic judgment.
“This impeachment move will be the nailing of his political casket, and it will be lowered. You may even look for his name in the footnotes of political history and even Google will not remember him,” Dalung said.
The former minister argued that rather than weakening Governor Fubara, the impeachment attempt has exposed Wike to public backlash and political isolation. He described the development as the culmination of a series of political actions since 2023 that have steadily eroded Wike’s influence.
Dalung maintained that the impeachment process represents a point of no return, warning that it would not revive Wike’s authority but instead accelerate his political decline. He added that the move has further widened the rift between Wike and key political stakeholders in Rivers State.
The impeachment effort against Governor Fubara has generated intense controversy, with critics alleging external orchestration and raising concerns about legislative independence and democratic stability in the state.
