According to a report made by the Iran News Agency on Friday, 23 January, 2026, Iranian President Dr. Pezeshkian reframed the recent tragic unrest in Iran as a terrorist operation funded by the United States and Israel, with the goal of destabilising the entire Islamic world. He cast the issue as an external attack rather than local opposition.
During a phone call with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshian recast the recent unrest in Iran as an external aggression, accusing hostile forces—including the Trump administration.
Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, and the European Union—of pursuing a strategy to sow discord in Islamic nations and fuel regional terrorism and instability.
While he did concede that some merchants and trade groups were peacefully protesting economic difficulties, he presented a two-pronged explanation of events.
Claiming that organised terrorist groups backed by the US and the Israeli regime had hijacked the protests. He also labelled the protests as foreign-instigated terrorism.
The Iranian leader, President Masoud Pezeshkian, went on to proclaim complete triumph for the narrative of the Islamic Republic of Iran government led by Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
He said that the plots were foiled and the objectives of the alleged foreign conspirators were defeated due to the enormous pro-government rallies held by the Iranian people.
He went on to praise President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Turkish government for their steadfast, principled, and brotherly support, and they both took steps to strengthen bilateral relations.
Amidst the tragic loss of life, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended his sympathies and made a powerful statement: “Iran’s peace, stability, and security are of strategic and vital importance to Turkey.”
Along with strongly rejecting interventionist possibilities, he praised Iran for its principled and organised handling of the protesters.
