According to a report by Symfoni TV, on Friday, January 16, 2026, the renowned actress and social advocate Hilda Dokubo voiced significant worries regarding the current political climate and financial transparency in Rivers State. Addressing the friction between the state’s executive branch and the legislature, Dokubo urged stakeholders to put the interests of the public and regional growth ahead of political manoeuvring.
Reflecting on a particularly dark chapter in the state’s history, Dokubo described a six-month interval where life seemingly ground to a halt. She noted that the environment was neglected, commerce was stifled, and a general sense of stagnation hung over the region like a graveyard.
According to her, the state has only just begun to recover its footing, making any fresh political instability a direct threat to this fragile progress.
During her address, she revisited past financial irregularities that sparked public doubt. Highlighting past controversies, Dokubo said, “When they said they released our money to IBAS, some of us queried why.”
She maintained that adherence to legal and administrative protocols is non-negotiable, suggesting that certain past actions bypassed constitutional requirements and ignored the people’s well-being.
She further observed that even when high-level judicial directives appeared to conflict with constitutional standards, there was a noticeable silence from many leaders who should have spoken up.
The activist made a firm plea for the preservation of institutional dignity, specifically regarding the governorship. She insisted that Governor Fubara must be given the space to execute his mandate without constant external pressure.
Dokubo argued that even if individuals have personal reservations about the man himself, the sanctity of the office he holds deserves absolute respect. She emphasised that he should be allowed the opportunity to either succeed or fail on his own merits as he performs his official duties.
Furthermore, she condemned the cycle of political interruptions that consistently hinder effective governance. Dokubo warned that these recurring crises do more than just stall policy; they actively damage the economy and social fabric of the state. Instead of pursuing short-term patches that often escalate into deeper conflicts, she challenged leaders to seek genuine, long-term resolutions.
Dokubo appealed for a unified front involving political figures, lawmakers, and traditional rulers to safeguard the state’s peace. She reiterated that the citizens of Rivers State are entitled to a stable environment, and it is the responsibility of those in power to act with integrity to ensure the collective prosperity of the community.
