Chidi Odinkalu Reacts As Tukur Buratai Raises Concerns Over Deployment Of Military Officers

Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and former chairman of the national human rights commission recently reacted after former military chief, Tukur Buratai raised serious concerns over the nationwide deployment of military officers. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that the former military chief should be the last person complaining about the deployment.

The former Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai (rtd) was recently on the spotlight after he kicked against the nationwide deployment of military officers.

In his arguments which sparked massive public debate, he pointed out that military presence in communities might erode public trust on the police and other paramilitary agencies.

However, Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and lawyer in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, expressed his shock at the comments made by General Buratai.

According to his statements, he pointed out that he was surprised that the former military chief was complaining about the deployment of military officers, a move he sanctioned while in office.

He further asked if the erstwhile military chief had forgotten what happened under his watch as the Chief of Army Staff. The nationwide military deployment, according to Chidi Odinkalu, was acceptable and should be commended.

The nationwide military deployment, it can be recalled, was sanctioned by the Nigerian Army to combat widespread insecurity across the country, as the fight against insurgency and insurgents reached it’s peak.
