Mohammed said all the problems he is facing are because of me, that I claimed I would put fire– Wike

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has dismissed allegations by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, that he is responsible for the political challenges currently confronting the governor.

In a report by Daily Trust on 2nd January, 2026, Wike reacted to claims credited to Bala Mohammed that the FCT minister had vowed to “put fire” in Bauchi State, an allegation Wike described as unfounded and exaggerated.

While addressing supporters during a recent public engagement, Wike said the Bauchi governor had attributed all the problems facing his administration to him, a position he openly rejected.

The former Rivers State governor insisted that he does not wield such powers to destabilise any state, noting that political leaders must take responsibility for their own internal challenges.

According to Wike, if Bala Mohammed truly believes that such influence exists, he should focus on confronting the realities before him rather than shifting blame to external actors.

He stressed that leadership comes with accountability and that difficulties arising from governance or party affairs cannot always be traced to perceived political opponents.

Wike further stated that accusing others of orchestrating crises does not resolve underlying political or administrative issues within a state.

He urged political leaders to address their problems directly and engage with their constituents rather than resorting to public accusations.

The FCT minister maintained that political disagreements should be managed through dialogue and internal party mechanisms, not through public claims of sabotage.

“He said all the problems he is facing are because of me, that I claimed I would put fire there. If you have such power, go ahead and use it. Face your problems,” Wike said.

Wike concluded by stating that every elected official must “face their problems” squarely, a stance he said remains consistent with his previous public comments on the matter.
