Even If I Am A Terrorist, Nobody Should Question Me Now, I Have Immunity -Bala Mohammad Fires Back

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has spoken further on ongoing legal proceedings and allegations involving his name, saying the matter is now being addressed both in court and in the public space. The governor made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television aired on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Mohammed, who has served as governor of Bauchi State since 2019 and was re-elected for a second term in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the issue has moved beyond formal judicial processes to what he described as public scrutiny. According to him, “We are in court. We are just in public court now. For people to know the truth.”

He explained that public narratives often form before all facts are established, noting, “Because sometimes, before you get to know it, some perception, some opinion will be formed. And it is difficult to erase it.” The governor stated that the situation has caused him distress, saying, “I feel pained.”

Reflecting on the timing of the developments, Mohammed said, “At the beginning of this year, that such thing will come.” He recounted earlier stages of the matter, stating, “When it was just a criminal issue, accusing my cousins, going after my children and all this. I didn’t mind.”

However, he drew a distinction with subsequent allegations, saying, “But for you to come and accuse me of terrorism, I will not take it. I will not take it. I will have to shout.”

The governor also referenced his constitutional status, stating, “Because even if I am a terrorist, nobody should question me now. I have immunity. Like any other person.” He spoke on the individual he said was being linked to him, stating, “And the person they are linking me with, is there in his house. Bello Badejo.”

Mohammed referred to circumstances surrounding that individual’s arrest, asking, “You know the background when they arrested him?” He linked the situation to previous comments he made on security and ethnicity, stating, “When I said that you should not generalize Fulaneis and criminalize them.” He added, “In every tribe, there is a there are criminals.”

The governor acknowledged a long-standing relationship with the individual mentioned, saying, “And then Badejo had a relationship with me for many years.” He also referenced other political affiliations, stating, “And he had a relationship with APC. With Tinubu and with Nasarawa.”

Mohammed further clarified the individual’s location, adding, “And he is not in Bauchi.”
