Netanyahu: Israel Does Not Want Another War With Iran

According to the Tehran times, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that he sent a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, asking him to pass on to Tehran that Israel does not want another war with Iran. Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu said Israel “does not seek tensions” with Iran, signaling a shift toward restraint after months of heightened fears in the region.

Netanyahu said he contacted Putin directly to prevent further escalation, making it clear that Israel’s goal is stability rather than confrontation. The statement contrasts with earlier Israeli media reports that suggested a possible renewed military conflict, showing a more cautious approach from Jerusalem. Analysts note that Netanyahu’s tone reflects concern over Iran’s military capabilities, rather than confidence in launching another strike.

The remarks come almost six months after a major confrontation on June 13, 2025, when Israel carried out an unprovoked attack on Iran. The 12-day conflict left over 1,000 people dead, including senior military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians. U.S. forces later hit three Iranian nuclear facilities, a move Tehran called a serious violation of international law.

During the fighting, U.S. forces reportedly fired more than 100 THAAD interceptors, possibly up to 150, to counter Iranian ballistic missiles, using roughly a quarter of the U.S. THAAD stockpile. Experts say the heavy reliance on interceptors exposed vulnerabilities in missile defense and depleted a costly strategic resource.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps responded with coordinated missile and drone strikes in 22 waves, targeting major Israeli military and intelligence sites. Iranian sources reported attacks on the Kirya military complex in Tel Aviv, Israel’s “Pentagon,” as well as key air bases including Tel Nof, Nevatim, Hatzerim, and Ovda. Analysts suggest the scale of damage in the June war makes it unlikely Israel will initiate another large-scale attack on Iran anytime soon.

Netanyahu’s confirmation of the message to Putin appears to be a signal both to Tehran and the wider region: Israel wants to avoid a new war and is calling for restraint, even as tensions and memories of the June conflict remain fresh.
