Israel’s military has signaled readiness to expand its operations across multiple theaters, with its top general warning that the country will strike its enemies wherever necessary, including on distant fronts.
The remarks, reported by Iran International, have been widely interpreted as an implicit reference to the possibility of further action against Iran.
Speaking on Sunday at a handover ceremony for the head of the Israel Defense Forces’ Planning Directorate, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir described the confrontation with Iran as central to what he called the longest and most complex war in Israel’s history. According to Zamir, the current conflict cannot be understood solely through individual flashpoints, but rather as part of a broader strategic struggle with Tehran.
Zamir accused Iran of financing, arming, and directing a network of allied forces positioned around Israel’s borders. He said these groups, operating on multiple fronts, form what he termed a “ring of strangulation” designed to pressure Israel militarily and strategically.
The IDF chief argued that Tehran’s long-term objective is to weaken and ultimately destroy the Israeli state by surrounding it with hostile forces capable of coordinated action.
Emphasizing Israel’s military posture, Zamir stated that the IDF is prepared to operate both close to home and far beyond its immediate neighborhood if required. His comments suggested that Israel’s defense strategy is not confined to reactive measures, but includes the option of proactive strikes aimed at neutralizing threats at their source.
