Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and former chairman of the national human rights commission recently reacted after Captain Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso released the eleven military personnel and their aircraft after meeting with the minister of foreign affairs, Yusuf Tuggar. According to the statements which were shared on his official X, he pointed out that the release was made possible through good diplomacy.
The news regarding the release of the eleven military personnel and their aircraft by Captain Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso generated mixed reactions after the reports went viral across various social media platforms.
The release, which came as a surprise to many, was made possible after a delegation led by the minister for foreign affairs, Yusuf Tuggar met with the Burkinabe government led by Captain Traore.
Reacting, Chidi Odinkalu, a respected human rights activist and lawyer in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, pointed out that the release was made possible through good diplomacy and not through threats.
He further pointed out that bringing the case to a close through mutual understanding was a good move, given that many had advocated for forceful actions.
These were the words of Chidi Odinkalu which he shared on his official X handle,
“I am glad this matter with Burkina Faso over the stray C-130 and the 11 service personnel has been brought to a close through good, old diplomacy that no one took the empty sabre-rattling seriously.” He wrote.
