Tanimu Turaki, the National Chairman of the PDP, has stated that he sympathizes with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, who recently left the PDP to join the APC. Turaki said that Fubara had been hounded, intimidated, and harassed for a long time. He said if changing parties will protect Fubara, then it is the best choice for him.
In an interview with Channels Television, Turaki explained that even after the state of emergency in Rivers State was lifted, Fubara was still scared and unable to speak or act freely. He said he is happy that Fubara has now found his voice and moved to the APC. However, Turaki added that the PDP is still strong and remains intact in Rivers State.
In Turaki’s words: “For Rivers State honestly I even want to sympathize with him because he is a person that was being hounded, he was being intimidated, he was being harassed, and if for whatever reason now moving over will give him that protection, I think the better for him. But for quite sometime he had been harassed by the powers and so you could see even after he came back from the illegally imposed state of emergency in Rivers State he was still cowed, he could not talk he could not do anything. I am happy for him that he has now found his voice, that he has moved over”
