Social media users have taken to their official X account on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 to react after the Senate ordered the arrest and prosecution of those saying the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and former military head of state, General Yakubu Gowon have died.
According to a video that was published on the official X account of Nyesom Wike’s aide, Lere Olayinka, the lawmaker representing Benue Northwest Senatorial District, Titus Zam said the promoters of fake news should be arrested and made to face the law.
In the video that surfaced online, the house members debated on his request and it was granted.
The lawmaker said;
“This is a very serious matter. Such report about you (Goodwill Akpabio) needs to be investigated. It’s not only you who was reported in this negative manner, the former military head of state, Gen Yakubu Gowon was equally reported a few days ago to have died. There is the urgent need for us not to just Investigate but to punish the promoters of fake news”.
