According to a report by The Times Of Israel on Monday, December 15, 2025, amid ongoing investigations into whether the Iranian government may have played a role in yesterday’s deadly attack at a Hanukkah celebration at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, Iran’s chief rabbi, Rabbi Yehuda Garami, has issued a formal condemnation of the violence.
“With great pain and deep sorrow, I strongly condemn the recent crime and acts of terrorism and violence against the Jewish community in Australia on the holiday of Hanukkah,” Garami said in a statement. “Any harm, incitement to hatred and violence against people – regardless of their religion, origin or nationality – is contrary against human, moral values and the path of faith.”
Australian authorities are currently examining whether the attack, which claimed at least 15 lives and left over 40 people injured, was orchestrated with Iranian involvement. Reports suggest that Israel’s Mossad had alerted Australian intelligence roughly a month ago to plans by Iranian-backed operatives within the country to target Jewish communities, according to Hebrew media sources.
The attack has heightened concerns about the safety of Jewish populations abroad, particularly in light of previous warnings regarding potential Iranian-linked operations. While investigations continue, Australian officials have not publicly confirmed any direct connection to Iran at this stage.
