Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the Iranian axis of influence has been significantly weakened, opening new possibilities for regional peace.
Speaking at a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Netanyahu stated: “The Iran axis has been battered. It was the major engine of disruption in the negative sense of terrorism of extremism and fanaticism. And it’s definitely been relegated to a back seat.”
The Prime Minister characterized Iran as having been the primary source of regional instability, but suggested that recent developments have fundamentally altered the strategic landscape.
“So now opportunities for peace are there. We tend to exploit them,” Netanyahu said, announcing his intention to discuss these opportunities with U.S. President Donald Trump during a planned meeting later this month.
Netanyahu referenced the recent “rising line operation,” describing it as “our 12-day war with Iran,” and noted that Chancellor Merz had made supportive statements about Israel’s actions during that conflict.
The Israeli leader suggested that the diminished Iranian influence creates favorable conditions for advancing peace agreements in the region. He indicated that both Israel and Germany are prepared to “seize the future together,” with technological and defense cooperation helping to facilitate peace initiatives.
Netanyahu expressed confidence that “we are at the point where we believe that peace opportunities are at hand,” linking the potential for diplomatic progress directly to the reduced Iranian threat.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu highlighted the technological prowess of both Israel and Germany during Monday’s press conference with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, emphasizing opportunities for expanded cooperation.
“Israel and Germany are two of the most advanced economies in the world. We have extraordinary people, extraordinarily gifted people,” Netanyahu stated, pointing to areas of potential collaboration including “high technology, high-tech, deep tech, AI, quantum, all these things that are going to change the face of this planet and the future of humanity.”
