According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Monday, December 8, 2025, Prof Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, first daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has acknowledged that she is aware of the political billboards carrying her image across Abeokuta ahead of the 2027 elections.
She said the structures were put up by her supporters and explained that although she is not actively pursuing a return to politics, her future in public service remains dependent on God and the people who continue to encourage her.
She noted that she has built a fulfilling career in teaching, mentoring and supporting individuals within and outside Ogun State.
Obasanjo-Bello, an Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Maryland, Baltimore in the United States, confirmed her position during an interview in Sagamu.
She had attended the 70th birthday celebration of a former National President of the National Council of Women Societies, Chief Gloria Shoda, where she addressed questions on the growing speculation surrounding her political intentions.
The former Commissioner for Health and former senator representing Ogun Central from 2007 to 2011 explained that although she was informed about the billboards, they were not commissioned by her.
She stated that the initiative was driven by supporters who believed she should consider participating in the 2027 elections based on her past contributions to public service.
Obasanjo-Bello added that her supporters persuaded her to allow them continue with their mobilisation efforts, insisting that they believed she still had a role to play in the political landscape of Ogun State.
She said their decision to erect the billboards was rooted in their conviction that she could provide effective leadership if she chose to contest.
She further explained that the renewed attention on her political profile highlights the importance of leaders maintaining integrity and commitment during their time in office.
According to her, this was a reminder that public service should always be guided by responsibility and the positive impact made on communities.
Obasanjo-Bello noted that she has built a stable and meaningful academic career, emphasising her passion for teaching, mentoring and helping younger people find direction.
She said her work in the academic environment has enabled her to guide many individuals in Ogun State and beyond, contributing to their personal and professional growth.
She stressed that her decision regarding future political involvement remains open and would depend on divine guidance and the continued encouragement from those who believe in her leadership qualities.
She maintained that she is not focused on political ambition at the moment but acknowledged that the support she receives reflects the long-term relationships and impact she has established over the years.
She said: “I don’t know if I am interested in politics again. I have built a very good life for myself. I love teaching; I love encouraging my students. I love to guide people and provide mentorship. There are several people in Ogun State that I have helped to become who they are today.
