Public commentator Dele Farotimi reacted sharply after President Bola Tinubu released a list of 32 ambassadorial nominees. His response was a mix of disbelief and humor, and he didn’t shy away from calling out what he felt was an obvious slight against well-known political figure Joe Igbokwe.
The president’s new list includes 17 non-career nominees and 15 career diplomats. According to the Presidency, these individuals will represent Nigeria in countries and international bodies that matter to the nation’s foreign policy. While many Nigerians were busy analyzing the choices, Farotimi took to his X account to express his own kind of protest.
He joked that he understood why someone he mockingly called “MC Mushroompikin” didn’t make the list, claiming that the person was “more useful in the military wing.” But his real punchline came when he turned to Igbokwe. With a tone that blended sarcasm and frustration, he asked whether the only position Igbokwe qualified for was “supervising the gutter.”
In his words, “I can understand the non-inclusion of MC Mushroompikin on the ambassadorial list, after all he is more useful in the military wing. But I must protest on Igbokwe’s behalf, is he only qualified to supervise the gutter?”
