According to a report by Leadership, on Monday December 1, 2025, former Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has called on the President not to run for a second term in 2027.
He said Nigeria needs a more energetic and focused leader to tackle its growing challenges.
Baba-Ahmed, who served in the Office of the Vice President, expressed concern over the current state of the country and questioned the administration’s approach to leadership.
According to him, President Tinubu has achieved his long-time political goal of becoming president.
But he argued that the President has not shown the urgency or determination expected to solve Nigeria’s problems.
Baba-Ahmed said the administration appears more focused on financial figures than on improving the daily lives of Nigerians.
Baba-Ahmed urged President Tinubu to consider stepping aside and allow a younger, healthier, and more capable person from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to lead the nation.
He stressed that there are enough resources and political influence to support a strong successor within the party.
He criticised the President’s response to recent national challenges.
Baba-Ahmed said that in recent months, the leadership has not reacted with the speed or decisiveness required to address emergencies effectively.
Baba-Ahmed believes that a fresh leadership approach is necessary for Nigeria to overcome its current crises and build a more stable and prosperous future.
“I’m sorry, but I have to say this again. When I left his administration, one of the things I told many people was, I wish President Tinubu would not run again in 2027. First, he said his ambition was to be president, and he has now achieved that. He said ‘Emil’okan,’ and he had his turn. But I don’t think he has run the country well,” Baba-Ahmed said.
