Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has spoken candidly about the deep-rooted family tensions he has faced, explaining how he has navigated difficult situations with patience, love, and discretion. In an interview on AF24 News Stories, Fayose emphasized that while disagreements with siblings are personal, he remains committed to maintaining dignity and protecting his mother’s wellbeing.

Fayose recounted a chilling exchange, saying “I told my mom, ‘If you die, where should you be buried?’ My siblings said, ‘I want to kill her.’” The former governor explained that despite such extreme statements, he has remained calm and focused on safeguarding his mother and upholding family responsibility. He stressed that publicizing internal conflicts only amplifies pain and leaves long-lasting impressions for future generations, particularly his children.

Highlighting his dedication to his mother, who is 86, Fayose revealed that he has taken her on medical trips abroad, including to South Africa and Dubai, ensuring she receives proper care and attention. He reiterated that his actions are motivated solely by love and duty, not for public recognition. Fayose also drew a distinction between his nuclear family—his wife and children—and his extended family, including siblings, explaining that while tensions may exist, affection and respect remain intact.

Reflecting on ongoing disputes, he admitted that insults and attacks from some relatives have persisted over the past year, yet he refuses to retaliate, instead relying on restraint and leadership to navigate these challenges. Fayose emphasized that silence and discretion are often the best ways to handle family conflicts, particularly when public scrutiny can complicate matters.

He concluded by thanking Nigerians for their support during his recent birthday celebrations and urging understanding of the private struggles even public figures face. Fayose reaffirmed that he will continue to care for his family and honor his mother while maintaining peace and dignity in all his interactions.
