According to a report by The Nation on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has announced the closure of all state, federal, and private schools in the state, covering primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.

The decision, he said, was made following advice from security agencies about potential threats to schools and students.

The governor said that the closures are a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.

Governor Mohammed spoke on Wednesday in Bauchi ahead of the State’s Executive Council (SEC) meeting.

He said intelligence reports indicated a possible threat of school invasions and abductions in various parts of the state.

The governor noted that these reports prompted the government to take immediate action to prevent any security incidents involving schools.

He explained that the decision to close schools was proactive and focused on the protection of students rather than causing panic.

According to him, the government is committed to implementing measures that will make schools safer and reduce the risk of attacks.

Governor Mohammed highlighted that particular attention will be given to schools located in hard-to-reach areas and those considered more vulnerable.

He added that security personnel have been instructed to increase patrols and monitoring around such institutions.

The governor also mentioned plans to improve physical security in schools, he said fencing vulnerable schools is part of the strategy, and the government hopes to complete the fencing before the end of the year.

He clarified that while the closures are necessary, the government is working to ensure that education continues through alternative arrangements where possible, efforts are being made to minimize disruption to students’ learning while maintaining strict security protocols around all schools.

Governor Mohammed concluded that the safety of students remains a priority for the state government.
