In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, Oladimeji Fabiyi, a senior chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), spoke extensively about the early political journey of Ayo Fayose and the support he received from key figures in the party.
“It was Atiku who first gave him the ₦15 million he used to embark on his campaign,” Fabiyi revealed, stressing that the financial assistance from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar played a crucial role in kickstarting Fayose’s political career. Fabiyi argued that despite this support, Fayose has consistently shown ingratitude toward those who helped him rise within the party.
The PDP chieftain expressed concern over the current state of the party, citing internal crises, leadership disputes, and what he described as selfish agendas among present-day leaders. According to him, the PDP has strayed far from the vision of its founding members and risks further decline if corrective measures are not taken.
Fabiyi further criticized Fayose for his conduct toward party elders and prominent figures, saying incidents of disrespect and self-interest undermine party cohesion. He warned that such behavior threatens the PDP’s ability to present a united front in upcoming elections.
Despite these criticisms, Fabiyi reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, stating that he remains a committed member even as he lamented the party’s dysfunction. He emphasized the need for reforms to restore its strength and ensure it continues to play a leading role in opposition politics.
