Joe Igbokwe has stated that Nnamdi Kanu and his followers bear direct responsibility for the death and displacement of families in Igbo communities. According to Igbokwe in a recent Facebook post, his family’s hometown, once a peaceful area, has been devastated by violence and unrest linked to Kanu’s activities.
Igbokwe stated that during the upheaval, the Igwe’s palace in his hometown was set on fire, and several families were killed. Elderly residents were forced to leave, unsure if they would ever return. “The trauma inflicted on our people is real, and many have lost not only their homes but also their sense of security,” Igbokwe said, describing the devastating impact on local communities.
While condemning the violence, Igbokwe also criticized the Igbo elite for failing to translate wealth into meaningful development. He stated that, despite the presence of numerous billionaires in Ala Igbo, many towns remain underdeveloped, with resources often directed toward personal luxury rather than community growth. “We have the resources to improve our communities, yet many still prioritize personal gains over public welfare,” he stated.
Igbokwe emphasized the need for introspection among the Igbo people. He noted that while marginalization is real, blaming external forces alone is insufficient. “We must look in the mirror and ask ourselves what we have done—or failed to do—for our communities,” he said. He warned that trauma from past conflicts should not hinder constructive action, insisting that true progress requires both accountability and initiative.
He also stated that hate preaching and divisive rhetoric have worsened the situation. “Many have been misled to believe that anger and revenge are the answers, but this only perpetuates suffering and chaos,” Igbokwe said.
Igbokwe called on Igbo communities to use their wealth and influence responsibly. He stated that resources should be invested in infrastructure, social services, and other community needs, while power should be exercised for collective benefit rather than personal glorification.
Concluding, Igbokwe stated, “Kanu and his followers are responsible for the pain, displacement, and loss our communities have suffered. It is time to rebuild, take responsibility, and ensure our towns become safe and prosperous once again.”
