Policy expert Prof.Okey Ikechukwu has described the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, as brilliant, intelligent, and bold. Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Ikechukwu revealed that he would not like to see him in prison and urged the President to exercise his power of presidential pardon to help him out.
He said:
“There is a prerogative of mercy by the President.”
He revealed that while he might not agree with Kanu’s views, it was not good to waste “our children.” He further noted that Kanu had pointed out issues of inequality against the Igbo people. He stated:
“I may not agree with some of his views, but we cannot waste our children.”
“Would I be happy seeing him put away?” he questioned.
He further described Kanu as “bold” and “intelligent” but stated that he wanted him to act within the confines of the law.
He added:
“You can see that he is bold, he’s intelligent, he’s brilliant, but I would like to see him within the law, and I think I would get greater satisfaction not allowing him to be kept in prison.”
According to Ikechukwu, while he might not agree with some of Kanu’s views, he believes that Kanu’s release could bring peace and stability to the South East. He noted that based on Kanu’s qualities, he could even serve as an asset to the Federal Government.
Recall that Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of seven counts of terrorism.
