Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar has stated that there is no Christian genocide occurring in Nigeria. In an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Tuggar acknowledged that while the country faces security issues, they are not directed at any specific faith, highlighting Nigeria’s identity as a multi-religious society living in harmony.
When asked about the number of churches attacked since 2009, Tuggar clarified that while some churches have faced attacks, none have been destroyed, with around 102 churches affected. He mentioned, “We are not concealing any numbers. It’s important to note that mosques have also been attacked.”
Tuggar pointed out that the governor of Benue State, who is a Reverend Father, would certainly voice concerns if there were targeted assaults on Christians. He remarked, “The governor of Benue State is a Reverend Father and a Catholic. He would be the first to raise the alarm if there were indications of a Christian genocide.”
He also conveyed a message to former President Trump, expressing that it was regrettable he had been misled. Tuggar stated, “We have great respect for America and President Trump. It’s unfortunate that he has been misinformed by those who deal in generalizations, leading to this statement.”
Additionally, he emphasized the historical alliance between the US and Nigeria, calling for cooperation to address the insecurity issues in Nigeria.
