During his appearance on Channels Television, Senator Garba Musa Maidoki gave details about how the attackers prepared before the raid on the school in Kebbi State.
He explained that the assailants arrived with livestock in advance, saying they “came with cows already packed before attacking the school.” According to him, this indicated that the attack was planned and coordinated long before the incident unfolded.
The senator said the presence of the cows showed that the attackers intended to use them for cover and for movement across the area. He added that residents who noticed unusual animals in the surrounding forest had earlier raised concerns, but the warnings did not lead to any immediate security response.
Maidoki explained that the attackers studied the school environment and waited for the moment when students and teachers were most vulnerable. He said the bandits had been operating in nearby communities and were familiar with the routes that allowed them to move without being detected.
He also revealed the scale of the assault, noting that the attackers did not come in small numbers. He said that “about 100 bikes, each carrying three people, stormed the school,” making it impossible for the local security team to resist the invasion.
According to him, the motorcycles allowed the attackers to enter the school grounds quickly and leave just as fast, making the operation difficult to counter. He said the noise from the bikes created panic among students and staff, leading to confusion as the attackers moved in.
The senator explained that the large number of bikes also helped the attackers spread across the area, blocking escape routes and surrounding the compound. He said this method had been used in previous attacks in other communities within Zuru Emirate.
Maidoki noted that the speed and coordination of the group overwhelmed the small number of security personnel available at the school. He said the officers on duty were unable to match the force of the attackers due to the sudden and heavy presence of armed men.
He added that the attackers separated into groups as soon as they entered the premises, targeting classrooms and dormitories. He said their familiarity with the layout of the school made the raid even more effective.
The senator said the incident has increased fear among families and school administrators, many of whom have been calling for stronger protection around learning centres in rural areas. He added that several communities have also asked for the deployment of more personnel to help prevent similar incidents.
