“How Dare You Say We Buried Empty Caskets?”-Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo Fires Back At Sheikh Gumi

According to a report by DAILY POST, a heated dispute has erupted between Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi and Plateau-based Christian leader Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo following claims made by Gumi that Christian communities in Plateau and other Middle Belt states stage fake mass burials to support allegations of genocide.

Gumi, in a Facebook post, alleged that some Christian groups bury empty coffins to create the impression of large-scale killings, insisting he received the information from a medical doctor living in the region.

He suggested that the supposed theatrics were meant to push a false narrative of Christian persecution, which had previously influenced international reactions, including Nigeria’s classification as a “Country of Particular Concern” under former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The comments sparked outrage in Plateau. Responding in a video posted on Facebook, Rev. Dachomo denounced the allegations and demanded that Gumi provide evidence or be prepared to defend his claims in court.

He argued that the remarks insulted both the dead and the survivors who are still grieving the loss of their loved ones.

To reinforce his position, the cleric led journalists to a mass burial site in Bindi-Jebbu, Riyom Local Government Area, where 27 victims were laid to rest on July 25, 2025.

The victims, including women and children, were killed when armed militias attacked the community earlier that month.

Dachomo, visibly emotional, recounted how the attackers stormed the area at night, leaving behind horrific scenes of gunshot and machete wounds.

At the burial site, he condemned Gumi’s claims as a disrespect to the deceased and an attempt to diminish the suffering of families who continue to grapple with the trauma of the attack.

He insisted that the graves contain real victims and expressed the community’s readiness to open the graves if necessary to dispel doubts.

Dachomo said; “How dare you say we buried empty caskets? The youths are ready we’re going to dig the graves. We are ready to bring out the corpses before everyone’s eyes!”

Dachomo also appealed to international bodies and global media outlets to visit Plateau and see firsthand the burial sites that document the scale of violence in the region.

He maintained that the killings are not exaggerated and urged the global community to pay closer attention to the ongoing attacks.

In his remarks, the clergyman stated that Gumi’s accusations trivialize the tragedies that have devastated communities across Plateau and vowed that such falsehoods would not go unchallenged.
