Chidi Odinkalu, a respected human rights activist and former chairman of the national human rights commission recently reacted after the former governor of Rivers State and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike disclosed that he will resign from his position if the president cannot protect him. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that the former governor made the statements under the influence of undiluted liquid.
The former governor of Rivers State and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike was recently on the spotlight after he held a press briefing to clear the air regarding the controversial confrontation with an armed military personnel.
His statements during the press briefing however, quickly garnered widespread traction across various social media platforms, with many picking lapses in his defensive remarks, notably that of his readiness to vacate his position.
Reacting, Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and legal expert in a recent statement which was published on his official X handle on Friday November 14th 2025, faulted the comments of the former Rivers State governor.
According to his statements, he pointed out that Nyesom Wike’s claims that he will resign from his position if the president failed to protect him was a testament to the instability of the FCT minister.
The verbal exchange, involving the young soldier, it can be recalled, had sparked massive public attention, with many criticizing the former governor for using unprintable words.
Chidi Odinkalu, a known critic of the former governor boldly stated that, ‘the microphone and alcohol never live in peace’, an analogy which had caught public attention.
