Dangote: Company Drivers Earn Above Graduates’ Salaries, Quadruple Minimum Wage

According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has disclosed that truck drivers employed by his company earn nearly four times Nigeria’s national minimum wage — a figure he says surpasses the salaries of many university graduates.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interview with Arise Television, Dangote emphasized that the company’s logistics expansion is not eliminating jobs but creating thousands of new ones. He dismissed fears over the recent launch of the company’s own tankers, clarifying that the initiative would generate employment, not reduce it.

“Each truck employs about six people, so the fleet we are rolling out will create at least 24,000 jobs,” Dangote said. He added that the company’s drivers receive generous pay and benefits, including access to house loans after five years of accident-free driving.

“Our drivers earn far more than most graduates, nearly four times the national minimum wage,” he stated. “We believe in rewarding hard work and creating opportunities for upward mobility.”

Dangote also urged that membership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) should remain voluntary, insisting the company respects workers’ rights while prioritizing fair compensation and improved working conditions.
