Chief Dele Momodu has dismissed accusations that opposition parties are behind the United States’ designation of Nigeria as a country of particular concern. He challenged anyone who believes the opposition orchestrated this international crisis to think critically about whether opposition parties struggling to organize themselves domestically would have the time, resources, or coordination to mount a campaign in Washington. Those responsible have come forward openly, and they are not politicians.
On Channels Television, Chief Momodu revealed that he read reports about a bishop from Benue State and spoke to high-level contacts who confirmed that a powerful Christian lobby group from Nigeria indeed reached out to Washington with documentation about persecution. These are not opposition party members but religious leaders and Christian organizations who felt compelled to seek international intervention because they believe Christians in Nigeria are being systematically targeted and the government has failed to protect them.
Chief Momodu noted that in Nigeria, when things go wrong, the ruling party always looks for scapegoats. If it’s not the opposition being blamed for current problems, then it’s the immediate predecessor—even former President Muhammadu Buhari, who has passed away, continues to be blamed for abandoning a “useless country” and “terrible economy” to the current administration. These blame games are typical in Nigerian politics, but Chief Momodu urged the president to ignore such distractions. This is the time to focus on solutions rather than pointing fingers. The president and his team are now being “terrorized from America” after spending years terrorizing the opposition domestically. Chief Momodu suggested this represents divine justice—the person you cannot catch will eventually be caught by someone else. He referenced comments under his article where Nigerians from all backgrounds are practically begging America to intervene, indicating how desperate citizens have become.
Dele Momodu said: “Anyone who sees oppositions behind this is just being myopic. Do you think the opposition that is trying to put its act together now have time to go to Washington? Those who did it come out openly. I read yesterday about a bishop from Benue and I’ve spoken to some high level contacts who confirmed that there is a powerful Christian lobby group from Nigeria that reached out to Washington. So anyone blaming opposition, of course everything in Nigeria when it is not going well, APC is not blaming its own immediate predecessor, a man who has gone to join his ancestors former President Muhammadu Buhari, they are blaming him for abandoning a useless country on them, a very terrible economy to them. There will always be blame games in politics. But this is the time for the president to ignore all those people who just go around trying to terrorize the opposition but now they are being terrorized from America.”
