No U.S. statement linking Nigeria to a Muslim-Christian conflict or threatening Muslims — Dahiru clarifies

Dr. Majeed Dahiru, a public affairs analyst, has stated that the angry reactions from some members of the Muslim community over President Donald Trump’s comments about killings of Christians in Nigeria are unnecessary.

In an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Dahiru said Trump did not say that Muslims and Christians are at war in Nigeria or that the United States plans to fight Muslims on behalf of Christians in Nigeria. He stated that Trump only said that jihadists and Islamic terrorists are killing Christians in Nigeria and that if the Nigerian government does not stop them, America might intervene

In Dahiru’s words: “America did not say that ‘Muslims and Christians are at war in Nigeria and we are coming to fight the Muslims on behalf of the Christians’. That is not what Trump said, he said there are jihadists, Islamic terrorists that are killing Christians in Nigeria and the government is not able the stop it, we are coming to defeat them”
