Professor Sadeeque Abba has challenged the narrative that the ongoing violence in Nigeria is purely a domestic issue, instead pointing the finger at international actors who he claims are complicit in fueling the crisis. He posed a series of critical questions about the source of the sophisticated weaponry and funding that bandits and terrorists in Nigeria have access to, suggesting that the international community, including the US, bears some responsibility.
During his interview on TrustTV’s Sunday Politics, Professor Abba argued that before blaming the Nigerian government for its failure to end the killings, one must first investigate the supply chain of the conflict. He asked, “Whose guns are being used? Whose bombs are being used? Who is funding those particular bandits and terrorists?” These questions, he insisted, lead to uncomfortable truths about the role of foreign powers in destabilizing the nation for their own benefit.
Citing what he called “scientific evidence” from an American congressman’s investigation, the professor made the explosive claim that Boko Haram has received $40 million from sources within the United States. He also implicated America and NATO in the broader instability of the region, arguing that the overthrow of Gaddafi in Libya opened the floodgates for extremist groups like ISWAP and Boko Haram to thrive. He concluded that the crisis in Nigeria cannot be solved without addressing these external factors.
Professor Sadeeque Abba said: “We ask ourselves if there there have been insecurity and instability in Nigeria in the last two decades. Now, you ask fundamental questions. Whose guns are being used by these bandies and terrorists? Whose bombs are being used? Who is funding those particular bandies and terrorist? And on from whose industries across the globe that these bandies are getting those particular supplies and who are benefiting from it day in day out. So you see you cannot just sit down because they killing people. You say it is this group or it is that group. Ask what is the sources of their own armory and ammunitions, what are the sources of their own funding. There is a a evidence, scientific evidence by an American congressman that is interrogating American security intelligence that you have been given $40 million to Boko Haram in Nigeria.”
